Member Associations

FILLM's members are not individuals but international associations, including associations which are continental and regional. These member associations fall into the following categories:
  • associations dedicated to the furtherance of the language and/or literature of one particular nation or grouping
  • associations dedicated to the furtherance of studies in a subject or subjects pertaining to a number of languages and/or literatures
  • associations dedicated to the furtherance of studies in modern and medieval languages and/or literatures in general
  • associations dedicated to the study of particular literary writers and groups of literary writers.
Eligibility

The conditions on which an association is eligible for membership of FILLM are stated in paragraph 6 of FILLM's Constitution. A member association of FILLM must be international in its aims and outlook, free of political aims, and independent of any form of external control. Its own membership must be open to scholars of any nationality. It must  be governed by a constitution agreed by its members, controlled by Officers and a Committee elected regularly, and financed by the subscriptions of its members. It must have not fewer than 50 members, comprising scholars from not fewer than five self-governing nations. And it must have functioned efficiently and constitutionally for a period of not less than two years

Membership Fees

FILLM bases its membership fee structure on that of each individual Member Association:

  • FILLM levies no membership fee from Member Associations that do not themselves levy membership fees from their own members;
  • Member Associations that levy a fee from their own members pay a flat rate of €80 per year to FILLM.
It is up to each Member Association to declare which of the two groups it belongs to.

These rates will apply from 2015.

FILLM requires that all payments are made in Euros.

Application Process

As provided by paragraph 7 of FILLM's Constitution, associations wishing to become members of the Federation have to make a formal application to the FILLM Committee, furnishing evidence of their eligibility as defined above, and stating their willingness to abide by the FILLM Constitution.

The application should be addressed to FILLM's Secretary General. (See FILLM's Committee for contact details).
