IASS 2016: "Transit Norden och Europa"

The deadline for submitting proposals is 15 January 2016.

The 31st conference of the
International Association for Scandinavian Studies will be held at the University of Groningen (Netherlands).

The theme is "Transit Norden och Europa".

The Call for Papers has now been issued. IASS invites scholars to submit paper proposals which deal with issues concerning transitions and borders between Europe and the Nordic countries, transitions in the Humanities, cultural transfer and the role of social media incontemporary society.

Apart from these topics, the organizers also welcome proposals for thematic sessions and individual papers on the following topics:

  • Writing transliterary history
  • Transmigration
  • Immigrant languages and literatures/cultures
  • Minority languages and literatures/cultures
  • The creation of new identities, new implied authors, new literary genres
  • The reactions of actors and institutions in a changing literary climate
  • The status of less prominent languages within the Humanities
  • Launching culture, literature and language in a market-driven environment
  • Renewed interest in myths and folk religion including of Nordic cultures and the representation and reception of, for example, Vikings in computer games, graphic novels, films, TV series
  • Nordic examples of intercommunicative understanding
