Next Volume The next volume of The FILLM Newsletter will come out on 15 June 2017. FILLM News The 27th FILLM Congress This volume of the FILLM Newsletter comes out a day earlier than normal, on the eve of the 27th FILLM Congress. The Congress kicks off tomorrow at the India International Centre (IIC) in Delhi, India with plenary lectures by Professor Christel Devadawson (University of Delhi) and Professor Elleke Boehmer (Oxford University). It was with some disappointment we had to announce last week that one of the plenary speakers for the Congress, Professor Tania Lewis (RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia) had to cancel her particpation. Luckily she agreed to have her talk  "Magical Modernities: The Familiar and the Exotic on Indian Spiritual Lifestyle TV" recorded and published on the FILLM website. Her talk is now available on the website and via the federation's social media profiles. Professor Lewis is an international renowned expert on emerging trends in lifestyle and consumption and we highly recommend that you take the time out to listen to her engaging talk... Today, the IIC is hosting FILLM's General Meeting. On the agenda is among many other things the election of a new committee for the next three years, planning for the next Congress (Vienna 2020) and some interesting new initiatives. More information on this and other issues discussed at the meeting will be announced in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out on the FILLM website and our social media profiles... FILLM Book Series Two new volumes in the FILLM Book Series, FILLM Studies in Languages and Literatures (John Benjamins), are set to be published within the next month: David Lucking. Shakespearean Perspectives. Essays on Poetic Negotiation. (Expected March 2017.) Anders Petersson. The Idea of a Text and the Nature of Textual Meaning. (Expected April 2017.) Don't forget to check out our previous publication from 2017 -  Worldmaking. Literature, Language, Culture. - as well as our back-catalogue from 2016 which included Elina Siltanen's study of experimentalism in contemporary American poetry, Jason Finch's introduction to Deep Locational Criticism and Sarah J. Paulson & Anders Skare Malvik's collection of articles on literature in contemporary media culture. For more information... Below you'll notice that the Series Editor, Roger D. Sell, is very interested in receiving typescripts which fit the overall aims of the series. He is especially keen to get more proposals with linguistic, philological and pedagogical topics. Note also that members of FILLM's Member Associations are entitled to a 30% discount on volumes in the FILLM Book Series. News from CIPSH and our Member Associations The Société des Anglicistes de l’Enseignement Supérieur (SAES) - a member of the European Society for the Study of English (ESSE) - has recently published a fascinating white paper which seeks to assess the state of research in English studies. The International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH)  will co-organize The World Humanities Conference together with UNESCO and LIEGETOGETHER in Liege, Belgium from 6-12 August 2017. For more information.... The Global Rhetoric Society has issued its first newsletter of 2017. It contains a look back at the society's activities in 2016 and a glimpse forward at events to come. These include two conference. One on the theme "Theory and Practice: New Scenery of National Communication Studies" in Xi'an City, China from 24-26 March 2017. And another on "New Scenery of Global Rhetorics: Classical and Modern, Amalgamation and Development" at the Huaqiao University, China from 15-17 December 2017. To read the entire newsletter... Former President of the International Association for Scandinavian Studies (IASS), Dr Petra Broomans, is once again one of academic coordinators of the summer school at the University of Groeningen, Netherlands. Running from 18-23 June 2017, the theme of the summer school is "Beyond Horizons: Transmitting and Writing New Identities of Minorities and Migrants in and Beyond Europe." For more information... The Asociación de Lingüística y Filología de América Latina (ALFAL) has announced that its 18th Congress will be held in Bogotá, Colombia from 24-28 July 2017. For more information... The next conference of The International Association for Dialogue Analysis (IADA) will held at the University of Bologna, Italy from 11-14 October 2017. The theme of the conference  is "Dialogue, Interaction and Culture: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Language Use in Everyday Life." For more information... The 2018 Annual Convention of the Modern Language Association (MLA) will takes place in New York City, US between 4-7 January 2018. For more information ... It has been revealed that the next conference of the International Assocation for University Professors of English (IAUPE) will be held at the University of Poznan, Poland in July 2019. More details to follow. Call for Papers FILLM is looking for contributions to its book series FILLM Studies in Languages and Literatures. While FILLM is looking for contributions within all areas of language and literature studies, we're particularly keen to receive proposals focusing on linguistic, philological and pedagogical topics.The series is published in collaboration with John Benjamins Publishing Company and former FILLM President Roger D. The deadline for submitting paper proposals to most of the Call for Papers for the 2018 Annual Convention of the Modern Language Association (MLA) is 15 March 2017. For more information ... There is also still time to submit individual paper proposals for the World Humanities Conference in Liege, Belgium from 6-12 August 2017. The conference is organized by the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH). The theme of the conference is "Challenges and Responsibilities for a Planet in Transition". The Global Rhetoric Society is looking for paper proposals for their conference on "New Scenery of Global Rhetorics: Classical and Modern, Amalgamation and Development" The conference will take place from 15-17 December 2017 at the Huaqiao University, China. For more information...
