Back in January, FILLM was very happy to annouce that the Iberio-American Organization of Rhetoric (OIR) had joined the federation. The main purpose of the OIR is to promote and disseminate rhetoric studies from any place and time in Ibero-America. The OIR will be represented on the FILLM Committee by Professor Gerardo Ramírez Vidal. For more on the OIR... And here in April, we are similarly pleased to tell that the International Association for Word and Image Studies (IAWIS) - in French, Association Internationale pour l'Etude des Rapports entre Texte et Image (AIERTI) - has also decided to become a member. IAWIS/AERTI seeks to foster the study of Word and Image relations in a general cultural context, and especially in the arts in the broadest sense. For more on IAWIS/AERTI... A hearty welcome to both organizations - we hope it's the start of a long and fruiful collaboration. The FILLM General Meeting 2020 The FILLM Committee gathered for a General Meeting online back in July 2020. The meeting was supposed to have taken place in connection with 28th FILLM Congress in Vienna, but with the postponement of that event till June 2021, it was decided to hold the meeting online. The main item on the agenda was the election of a new Committee for the period 2020-2023. New FILLM President is Professor Adams Bodomo (University of Vienna) who replaces Professor Margaret Higonnet. To see the entire FILLM Committee... Due to a late withdrawal, however, it was not possible to elect a Treasurer at the meeting. It was therefore decided that Margaret Higonnet should remaind on the Committee as interim Treasurer until another candidate could be found and elected by the Committee. This was done at another online meeting in November 2020 when Associate Professor Petra Broomans (University of Groeningen) was eleced Treasurer for the priod 2020-2023. At the General Meeting in June 2020, it was also agreed to amend the Constitution so as to establish an Executive Working Group within the Committee. This Working Group consists of FILLM's incumbent President, Vice-Presidents, Secretary-General, Treasurer and Communications Officer. The aim of the amendment is to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of FILLM by granting the Executive Working Group the authority to act and make decision on behalf of the FILLM Committee. However, the FILLM Committee retains the power to rescind or amend any decisions taken by the Executive Working Group.
