University of ViennaFILLM's 28th Congress

The 28th International Congress of FILLM is right around the corner. Initially set to take place at the University of Vienna in July 2020, the Congress will now be organized online later this month (19-21 July 2021). We are all excited about the event and hope it will be the venue for fruitful intellectual discussions.

All participants should now have received instructions on how to present their papers, but if, for some reason, you haven't,
do make contact with the organizers....

On the day prior to the Congress (18 July), the FILLM Committee will hold its meeting. All Committee members should have received the agenda (and relevant documents) as well as an invitation to the online platform in which the meeting will take place. Again, if you haven't, do get in touch with either Tom Clark or Adam Borch...

FILLM Studies in Languages and LiteraturesFILLM Book Series: Change in Editor

In the spring of 2021, former FILLM President Roger D. Sell (Åbo Akademi) decided to step down as Editor of FILLM's bookseries, FILLM Studies in Languages and Literatures (John Benjamins). On 31 May, the role was taken over by current FILLM Vice-President Haun Saussy (University of Chicago).

Sell set up FILLM Studies in Languages and Literatures in 2012 when he was President of FILLM. During his time as Editor, fifteen high-quality volumes have been published in the series on topics which reflect the broad scope of the federation.

Beyond the fifteen published volumes, Sell has had to read and assess numerous manuscripts during his editorship. It is a job that, largely, has gone unnoticed and unacknowledge but which, nonetheless, have been extremely valuable for the federation. For this, for creating the bookseries, and for his tireless dedication FILLM is forever grateful.

From the entire federation: Many thanks and hearty congratulations on a job well done, Roger!

The series' new Editor, Haun Saussy, is already at work on the next publications and we hope to be able to present new exciting volumes in the near future.

Until then, please do check out our backcatalogue on John Benjamins website and remember that all FILLM's members are entitled to a 30% discount.
