Sri Venkateswara College, University of DelhiThe 27th FILLM Congress: CfP & Webpages!

The next International FILLM Congress is now (precisely) a year away. We're already beginning to feel the excitement and we truly hope to see many of you there!

The Congress will take place from 15-17 March 2017 in New Delhi, India. It is 
hosted by Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi and the local organizers are FILLM President Meenakshi Bharat and the University of Delhi.

The Call for Papers is now open and you can submit proposals on the theme "The Familiar and  the Exotic in Language and Literature: The Politics of Perception and Representation" until the 31 August 2016. To read the entire Call for Papers....

FILLM Podcasts

Last autumn we posted the first of three podcasts to be published in the run-up to the 27th FILLM Congress next year. This was a talk  by
Dr Sukrita Paul Kumar (Aruna Asaf Chair, the University of Delhi) on the interesting an often vexing issue of multilingualism and multiculturalism in IndiaIn case you missed it, you can find Dr Kumar's talk here...

The second podcast is now also available. It features a talk by Professor Anvita Abbi on the topic "Vanishing Voices: What Happens When Langauge Dies". Professor Abbi is a specialist on minority languages, especially in South Asia. She is Director of the Centre for Oral and Tribal Literature at the Sahitya Akademi (Academy of Letters) in New Delhi, India and a recent recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri Award (2013) and the Linguist Society of America's Kenneth Hale Award (2015). FILLM Book Series: New Volumes!

Deep Locational CriticismThe third volume in the FILLM Book Series, FILLM Studies in Languages and Literatures (John Benjamins) is set to be published in March 2016. It is entitled Deep Locational Criticism. Imaginative Place in Research and Teaching. This first monograph in the FILLM Book Series is written by Jason Finch (Åbo Akademi University) and the book is "devoted to the question of how to teach and study the relationship between all sorts of literature and all sorts of location." Literature in Contemporary MediaThe second volume, entitled Literature in Contemporary Media Culture. Technology. Subjectivity. Aesthetics, was published earlier this year. This volume consists of 11 articles which, as it reads in the synopsis, seek to explore how "contemporary literature respond to the digitalized media culture in which it takes part" and how scholars "study literature in order to shed light on these responses". The collection of articles is edited by Sarah J. Paulson and Anders Skare Malvik (Norwegian University of Science and Technology). For more details...

It is circulated in email form to FILLM's member associations, CIPSH and scholars who have taken part in FILLM's Congresses and former FILLM committee members. It is also available online via FILLM's website.
